New Requirement - No Large Trash Containers
Waste Management has notified our association that they will not accept trash
containers larger than 32-gallons. The larger containers can still be used
but should contain the trash within several plastic bags. Workers can lift
the bags out of the containers and lessen the chances of injury.
Refuse Disposal Regulations
- Trash and recyclables should be placed at the curb no earlier than 4pm
Sunday (our garbage pickup is Monday, unless it is a holiday).
- The weight limit for each container is 50lbs.
- Tree branches and brush may be placed at the curb mid-April through October.
The branches should be placed at the curb with the cut ends all facing toward
the curb. No logs, stumps, or root balls.
- A maximum of 10 bundles of brush and 15 containers of trash (including
yard waste) per week.
- Bulk items (furniture, appliances, etc.) must be placed at the curb no
later than 7am on Monday.
- Yard Waste must be placed in a container marked with a Y or a Yard
Waste sticker, or in a paper yard waste bag. It must also be separated from
the regular trash. Yard waste
in plastic bags will not be accepted.
- Recyclables must be placed in the orange recycle bin and placed at the
curb on your regular refuse pick up day (ours is Monday morning).

- Tires
- Concrete
- Earth (dirt)
- Logs
- Stumps
- Yard Waste in Plastic Bags
Holiday Schedule:
Pick up will be the delayed by one day following major holidays (New Year's
Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas
Day)

Community Appearance
Codes
The following is a list of appearance codes enforced by the City of Southfield's
Code Enforcement Division. by following these codes you can help improve,
not only your own home, but your entire neighborhood.
- Homes should be routinely painted with no visible signs of peeling paint.
aluminum siding and trim should be routinely cleaned.
- All brick work, especially chimneys, should be free of broken bricks and
mortar joints.
- Windows should contain no broken or cracked glass. Screens should not
be ripped or torn.
- All buildings should be maintained in a structurally sound condition,
with no sagging roof lines; worn or missing shingles; or tilted/bowed floors
and walls.
- All building extensions and attachments, such as fences, porches, gutters
and shutters, should be maintained. They should present an even, straight,
and structurally sound appearance.
- Garage doors should be free of peeling paint and dents, and should close
tightly and securely.
- Grass and shrub areas should be mowed, trimmed, and kept weed free. Mowing
and trimming of ditch lines and right-of-way areas, adjacent to the roadway,
is also expected. All types of landscaping is expected to be kept neat and
clean.
- Driveways and sidewalks should be free of major cracks and broken areas;
and damage corrected by either repairing or replacing.
- Yard areas should be free of litter, junk, debris, and scrap storage.
All lawn furniture should be kept in a neat, orderly fashion, and put away
for the winter.
- No unlicensed and/or junk vehicles should be parked on the property other
than in the garage. Major vehicle repairs, such as engine and transmission
overhauls and body work that require extensive time to complete, should
not be attempted.
- Vehicles you do not intend to drive for extended periods may not be stored
on your property. They must be kept in the garage. Tarping a vehicle is
unacceptable.
- All vehicles should be parked in defined driveways, not in any yard areas.
Automobiles should not be parked on the lawn or between the sidewalk and
roadway.
- All public sidewalks should be kept free of ice, snow, and other obstacles.
Snow should be removed as soon as possible after a snowfall. Any dangerous
sidewalks should be repaired or replaced as necessary.
- All homes should have large readable house numbers, plainly visible from
the street. This helps emergency vehicles find you faster.
- Recreational vehicles, snowmobiles, boats, travel trailers, and mobil
homes exceeding 20 feet in length are not permitted and must be stored off-site.
Recreational vehicles, boats, and travel trailers less than 20 feet in length
may be stored in the backyard only.

Recycling
Newspaper and Inserts
Include glossy inserts with your newspaper (no need to separate).
Place loose in bin, tucked to one side OR place in PAPER bags.
Phone Books
Phone books are NOW accepted. Place loose in bin.
Cardboard
Cut or fold 2' x 2' x 1' and tie with string or rubber band.
Place in, under, or beside bin.
Magazines and catalogs
Tie with string or rubber band.
Boxboard/Paperboard
Place items such as cereal boxes in a paper bag or in the largest box.

No pizza boxes, milk
